Marjorie was born on 22nd August 1919 at 2, Hatfield Road, Barnet, Herts. She was a sister to Doris who was nearly four years older and Fred who was 13 years older. Marjories Father Frank worked as a Farm Labourer on the Wrotham Park Estate and Marjorie and Doris enjoyed the freedom of being able to roam in the fields and also take Frank his lunch on the days they weren't at school. Marjorie and Doris both attended Ladbrooke School, Potters Bar, Marjorie once said that they never missed the bus as when it arrived her Mum, Ada, would take the bus driver a cup of tea out to the bus. Marjorie was a clever girl and hoped to go onto a grammer type school, however she did not pass one of the entrance exams and was therefore unable to do so.
